Druidry With A Difference
Druidry With A Difference is a guide to druidry for the neurodivergent, disabled and chronically ill, and everyone who would like to support them better. Its aim is to address the difficulties that neurodivergence, disability and chronic illness can bring to the practice of druidry and how to adapt our practice to suit our unique brains and bodies, explore ways to make druidry and druid practice more accessible, and explore how our differences and our druidry can positively support each other.
Druidry is a spirituality open to everyone, where everyone is welcome. Neurodiversity, disability and chronic illness need not be a barrier to druid practice.
The idea for this book came from a series of discussions on the online forums of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Again and again, I saw druids who are neurodivergent, disabled and/or chronically ill coming up against the same difficulties when engaging with their druid practice. Difficulties I myself have encountered. Others jump into the discussions with workarounds and ideas, sharing their own experiences. It seemed there was a need for a resource, somewhere to bring all of these challenges, ideas and experiences together, where people can come to find ways to support their own practice, and feel less alone. Somewhere, too, that explores both the benefits of a mind or body that works a little differently, and the benefits druidry can bring.
This resource will also be a place where people who do not consider themselves neurodivergent, disabled or chronically ill can come to discover what challenges and differences these bring to druid practice, and help them better support others. This will be particularly useful to those who write study materials and books on druidry, or who organise, run, or attend druid events, rituals and gatherings.
(This guide must necessarily, if it is to be representative, be informed by as many different voices as possible. If you consider yourself to be neurodivergent, disabled and/or chronically ill, and follow or have followed a druid path, then please do get in touch! I would love to hear from you.)
