A Druidic Guide to the I Ching

A Druidic Guide to the I Ching takes the reader through the history and philosophies underpinning the I Ching, a fascinating and ancient Chinese divinatory system. It comprises clear and detailed explanations of how to carry out a reading, and in-depth methods of interpretation from a druidic perspective.

The I Ching is steeped in the historical Chinese culture in which it was written, and as such can be difficult to understand and interpret in the modern day. In writing this book, I bring the essence of the I Ching into understandable metaphor and symolism, drawing heavily on British Celtic and Druidic imagery and myth. The influence of druidic methods and practice can be seen throughout, for example, in the way I have explored the creation of ritual space, both internal and external, for casting the oracle. Druidry and the I Ching work very well together, as the Taoist roots of the I Ching share with druidry a grounding in the physical and in the natural world.

Most books on the I Ching comprise of a brief, technical introduction to the method and casting technique, before devoting the majority of space to a translation of the Book of Changes. Many people I speak to are very interested in learning more about the I Ching, but often feel confused and daunted by these books. My intention was to create a guide that set out the principles, techniques and history of the I Ching in a clear and comprehensive manner, making it easily accessible to beginners. This is the book I wish I’d had when I started out with this divination method.

I wanted to make this book easy to access for beginners, but also in-depth enough that more experienced practitioners will find new ideas and information, as well as ways to deepen their own practice. Beginners who read my book can use it to begin their journey with the I Ching, but also to find their own way within it, and go deeper if they desire. The book is a launching pad, giving all the information someone needs to really make their experience of the I Ching their own, and incorporate it into their life in a meaningful and transformational way. It also offers a way to incorporate the I Ching into a druidic or Celtic practice.

I have been studying both druidry and the I Ching for many years. I have given talks and workshops on the I Ching, and harvest and sell sets of yarrow stalks for divinatory purposes. These can be purchased from my Etsy shop, through the link below, if you would like to explore this further.
